A Kiwi Campers van rolled into this pond from Peregrine Wines' car park, in the Gibbston valley, on Wednesday afternoon.

The winery's chief executive, Fraser McLachlan, said the van was parked by two visitors who then went inside for a wine tasting.

They had left the handbrake on, but apparently it had failed.

"They enjoyed the wine tasting, but got a bit of a surprise when they went out."

The van was recovered that evening and no damage was done to the pond, he said.

Kiwi Campers did not respond to a request for comment.
