Delays "will be inevitable" in the area of State Highway 6 between Cromwell and Queenstown from Monday as safety work is conducted on the Nevis Bluff.

NZ Transport Agency maintenance contract manager Mark Stewart said for about three weeks until mid-November safety and monitoring work will be conducted and drivers are warned to add extra time into their journeys.

Workers will be abseiling the bluff, rock scaling to remove loose debris and will be conducting minor blasting work.

"Dates and times of blasting will be advised to nearby Gibbston residents as work progresses."

The Nevis Bluff is about halfway between Cromwell and Queenstown, 25 minutes from Cromwell, 35 minutes from Queenstown.
