Retired farmer Brian Oldham surveys a muddy section of Ramrock Rd, west of Bucklands Crossing, near Waikouaiti.

He said parts of the road were soft and the surface was shocking.

"I’ve been here since 1960 and it’s the worst I’ve seen it," Mr Oldham said.

He blamed a lack of timely maintenance.

However, contractors for the Dunedin City Council were at work on the road yesterday.

"Our contractors have been on site inspecting Ramrock Rd this week and noted some areas that were corrugated or worn and in need of repair," council transport group manager Jeanine Benson said.

A grader was there yesterday. Gravel was laid and further work would follow where it was needed, Ms Benson said.
