Two appointments at the Dunedin City Council have completed the organisation’s restructuring of its leadership group.

Claire Austin is moving from a management role at the Ministry of Justice in Wellington to become the council’s customer and regulatory general manager.

Council city services acting general manager Robert West will take up a new role as corporate and quality general manager.

Ms Austin has more than 20 years’ strategic, operational and regulatory leadership experience in both New Zealand and Australia’s government and charitable sectors.

Mr West joined the council in 2017 as parks and recreation group manager.

He has had more than 30 years in health positions in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, including 10 years in management roles at the Southern District Health Board.

Great..Mr West who removed the 'non woke' cycle track names. Just what the council needs is management stacked with more wowsers

I'm more worried that his experience comes from the SDHB!

Instead of making up new roles out of thin air, I think the ratepayers of Dunedin deserve an explanation as to what every "new role" actually entails ... other than getting an above average salary, a high back leather wheely chair for corridor races, (probably) a new DCC fleet car ... and let's not forget the nice warm office to work from.

An in depth explanation of why these new roles are needed would also be appreciated.

Between the DCC and ORC, this ratepayers of this city are coming to the realisation that they're getting shafted by a group of people who believe their only purpose in life is to spend other peoples money on "fluffy stuff" ... and on costly repairs to correct things that haven't been well planned and executed ... yep, we really do need spots on roads and traffic management islands that are a complete and utter failure.

The problem is, they don't apologise for getting it wrong, they just pass the buck and promote someone sideways, create a "new role" which doesn't solve the problem, it really only makes matters worse.

Just like central Government, the lefties create layer upon layer of management until it is unsustainable. Then the Tories get in and clear out all these superfluous roles and are branded as villains. This is why Chris Hipkins advises we cannot pay the nurses more, because the Government staff roles have increase many thousands (and that isn't counting the 200+ working groups!)
