Demolition of the old Scribes bookshop in North Dunedin resumed yesterday. Demolition was halted in April because the developer did not have a building consent, but the necessary paperwork, including archaeological authority, was now in place.
The masonry-clad building at the corner of Great King and St David Sts was most likely constructed in the late 19th century. The second-hand bookshop Scribes had been there since the early 1990s.
Plans for the site detailed in consent documents show a commercial premises, 10 accommodation units and parking.

You would have thought they would have taken the timber out of it, a building that old there would have been Kauri and Rimu....
