A digger tears down a Dunedin building on the corner of Crawford and Jervois Sts, which is owned by the Salvation Army, on Monday night.

The site is set to be converted into a car park.

Salvation Army corps officer Captain David McEwen said the building did not meet safety requirements and would cost ‘‘a huge amount’’ to bring up to standard.

The building had had a variety of uses in the past, such as a furniture store.

Well that's some good news, let's just hope it's not 'EV' only......would that be a surprise?
