All too infrequently readers, if they are lucky, come across a little gem of a book that engages them and virtually forces them to finish it at a sitting.

It had been a long time since I experienced that pleasure, but Dave Shelton's A Boy and a Bear In A Boat was worth the wait. Anyone who enjoyed Three Men In A Boat will instantly feel at home with this offbeat tale for readers 8 and over.

''It wasn't that the boy was worried. He was sure that the bear knew what he was doing. Well, fairly sure anyway.''

This utterly inspired piece of writing for the young at heart tells what happens when a boy goes to sea in a rowboat with a bear.

You must read it for yourself, no description of mine will do it justice. And if you buy a copy, don't lend it. It probably won't come back!
