It starts in London 2014 with a motorway pile-up. Margaret, trapped inside her car as it is about to explode, is rescued by a badly scarred stranger who then disappears.
The story takes us back to 1985, Scotland and Big George, the softy in a family of Glaswegian hard men who accidentally kidnaps the baby daughter he's hardly seen. The story is told from the perspective of both characters: Margaret, who knows little of her early life, and Big George, who just wants his daughter back.
It's a story that's at once predictable and unpredictable.
