Popular British author Jojo Moyes has done it again, providing a good read with compelling characters.

Described as ''chick-lit at its best'', The One Plus One tells the tale of a single mother of two who struggles to make ends meet and do her best for her maths-genius daughter and bullied stepson. When an opportunity comes her daughter's way, she breaks her own rules to make it a reality, but it comes back to haunt her when the man she lied to offers to help.

Along the way Moyes, whose novel Me Before You dominated the bestseller charts in New Zealand, manages to make you think about the difference in viewpoints and lifestyles between the haves and have nots: how just a few cents can mean the difference to paying the bills.
