Peter Jackson has woven movie magic again in his nomination as the producer of best picture candidate District 9 at this year's Oscar awards.

He joins a swag of other talented New Zealanders in nominations for the movie industry's most illustrious awards.

The nominees were all chosen for their work on sci-fi blockbusters District 9 and Avatar.

For Avatar, the Weta Digital team of Joe Letteri, Stephen Rosenbaum, Richard Baneham and Andrew R Jones are collectively nominated for best visual effects, The New Zealand Herald reported.

Other New Zealanders to be included in Avatar's mound of Oscar nods include sound recordist Tony Johnson and set decorator Kim Sinclair who feature in the team nominations for best sound mixing and best art direction respectively. Meanwhile, Weta's Matt Aitken represents the internationally shared visual effects work on District 9 -- a film initiated by Jackson and partner Fran Walsh.

Jackson's latest flick, The Lovely Bones, picked up one nomination for best supporting actor, Stanley Tucci.
