Oprah Winfrey has shared her plans about celebrating her birthday in New Zealand in January 2019.

Winfrey, who owns a media network, is an actress and former TV talkshow host told People, “I’m going to plan a big hiking trip to New Zealand for my 65th birthday (January 2019).”

“I’m not going to be skinny, not trying for a size. I’m just trying to be as healthy as my body wants to be.

"My goal is to be 65 and you all say, ‘What happened to Oprah? She got ripped!’ That’s my goal. Yes, honey.”

The Wrinkle in Time actress joined Weight Watchers in 2015 and has since been working to maintain her 19kg weight loss.

“I would really like to firm up, feel as fit as possible,” Winfrey says about her current health goals. “I’m going to start a weight-training program. Maybe I’ll run a half marathon.”

Actresses Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling joined Oprah in February last year for the filming of A Wrinkle in Time.

The cast and crew of the Disney film, which was shot at the Hunter Valley Station near Lake Hawea in Wanaka, also received a special Kiwi welcome of a powhiri and karakia when they landed in the South Island.

A Wrinkle in Time is set to screen in cinemas from April 12.
