CD reviews: Dave Dobbyn

Aided by The Phoenix Foundation's Luke Buda and Sam Scott and other members of the Wellington-based band, Dave Dobbyn strikes fine form on the aptly named Harmony House.

His first studio album in eight years, this 11-track effort is both subtle and slick, the deft song construction married to lyricism that ranges from joyous and celebratory (Ball Of Light, Angelina), and/or confessional (Submarine Blue).

Sometimes, it's all in the one song; Too Far Gone a reminder of Dobbyn the sublime songwriter, the dexterous vocalist and the adventurous artisan.

An album that demands, and rewards, repeated listening.
