CD Reviews: Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters visited eight American cities on a musical odyssey intended as a homage to various influences; so the outfit's latest (and eighth) studio album comprises the same number of songs, although none particularly redolent of the places in which they were recorded.

Had the tracks been captured in various stadia, then, yes, mission accomplished, as big-venue rock is this gargantuan band's stock-in-trade.

Boasting big riffs and near-virtuoso drumming, Sonic Highways brims with in-your-face energy, yet it might just lack the killer punches of earlier albums, including 2011's excellent Wasting Light.
