CD reviews: Justin Bieber

Clearly tired of tantrums, monkey business and speed-freakery, Purpose sees the sixth-greatest living Canadian emerge from a turbulent (and prolonged) adolescence refreshed and focused.

Slick urban pop abounds on Bieber's fourth LP, featuring all-star co-writers (Ed Sheeran's Love Yourself), A-List rappers (Big Sean) and top drawer producers (Diplo, Skrillex).

Although at times the guests threaten to gatecrash, ultimately this is Justin's mea culpa.

What Do You Mean, Sorry, and I'll Show You reflect a maturity not only in songcraft and subject, but also in vocal delivery: stirring and defiant one minute, breathy and tender the next.
