CD reviews: The Living End

In the 20 years since it burst out of nowhere with a rockabilly revival meets punk manifesto, The Living End's trajectory has gradually taken it towards the mainstream.

Chris Cheney might still wave his Gretsch in abandon while Scott Owen pounds steadfastly on his upright bass, but the formula is pretty basic four-on-the-floor rock.

Shift is rock radio-friendly and, if that is your thing, then it's pretty good.

It just doesn't have any of the raw-boned excitement of the outfit's exciting Stray Cats-meet-The Jam mash-ups.

• The Living End. Shift. Dew Process.
