Music review: Elvin Bishop's Big Fun Trio

Elvin Bishop's Big Fun Trio. Something Smells Funny Round Here. Alligator. ★★★★

Elvin Bishop has been around for over five decades, having started as a founding member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Together with Bob Welsh and Willy Jordan, he formed the trio in 2015, and the group's good-times sound has drawn a big following.

Something Smells Funky Around Here is their third album and they've become even more adventurous, creating their own versions of familiar tunes such as (Your love lifted me) Higher & Higher and I Can't Stand the Rain, as well as rustling up blues classics such as My Soul, and their own Something Smells Funky Round Here.

At 75, Bishop is very much a seasoned musician, and his Big Fun Trio knows how to deliver on the promise of their name.
