Sharing vocals works for Gow

Melbourne-based Dunedin musician Matt Joe Gow has been fielding positive feedback since winning Music Victoria’s Country Album of the Year award. While his next album is on the distant horizon, he’s just released a new single called Too Far To Go.

Gow wrote the song a while back and has taken a different approach by recording it with a group called The Weeping Willows, with whom he has crossed paths before.

Too Far To Go is a genuine collaboration, with Laura Coates, of the Willows, sharing the vocals rather than swapping verses, over a melodic stripped-back sound.

The Weeping Willows provided back-up vocals on Gow’s Break, Rattle and Roll album last year so they were already familiar with each other’s voices.

Covid-19 restrictions mean Gow has had to cancel performances but, all things being equal, he’ll return to Dunedin as he builds up to another album release in late 2020.

The video for Too Far To Go is on Gow’s Facebook page.
