'The Man Who Fell to Earth' soundtrack is to be released for the very first time.

The original song from the 1976 cult classic of the same name starred the late David Bowie - who played an alien called Thomas Jerome Newton - and includes the music of former Mamas & the Papas frontman John Phillips and Japanese composer, Stomu Yamash'ta.

The track hadn't been released before because the original tapes were lost, but now it has been remastered and will be made available on CD, Vinyl and in a dual format Deluxe Box, which features a reproduction of the original theatrical poster and a 48-page hardback book with rare photos.

Meanwhile, the movie's editor, Graeme Clifford, has revealed that Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of The Moon' was the main inspiration for the movie.

He said: "On my original cut, I scored the entire movie to Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. I think I used every single track on the album. The whole movie was Pink Floyd except for the one piece at the end, and it worked beautifully. The movie was made for that score! I don't know if there was any serious attempt to get 'Dark Side Of The Moon' cleared for our project but obviously, that never happened."

It's widely known that Bowie's forthcoming musical 'Lazarus', which comes to London's King Cross Theatre on October 25 until January 22, was inspired by TJ Newton's 'The Man Who Fell to Earth'.

The double CD will be released on September 9 and the double vinyl and deluxe 2 CD/2 LP Box Set on November 18.

Comments

Rewrite to accompany soundtrack 'Mars the bringer of War', from The Planets by Holst, incorporating English hymn 'Another Country'

He fell into Another Country
and it did puzzle him
to be bundled off to the alienists
saying 'You're new here, like a Pimms?

Wish there was another Country to fall to Earth to
People here go berko
over mud tanks and rubbish bins.
