The Clutha Gold Trail offers a unique heritage experience set within diverse and stunning landscapes. Open all year round, the 73km trail takes between two and four days to complete. It is an easygrade trail that is full of variety. Cyclists can begin their journey at any point.
- Commissioner Flat to Roxburgh (9.4km): Follow the river, looking for signs of the original search for gold, and take in the orchards.
- Roxburgh to Millers Flat (19.6km): Meander along the river, where stunning rock formations and the largest stand of regenerating native kanuka are features.
- Millers Flat to Beaumont (24.7km): Cycle from the farmland and orchards around Millers Flat through the remoteness of Beaumont Gorge, and onto the main highway at Beaumont Bridge.
- Beaumont to Lawrence (19.4km): Beyond the Big Hill Tunnel descend into lush farmland. See reminders of the area’s history, including the goldfields, and the milling of flax fibre.
