Nugget Point: This rocky outcrop features wave-eroded rocks (which are likened to the shape of gold nuggets), one of New Zealand’s oldest lighthouses, and a fur-seal colony.

The best of what the South Otago region has to offer can arguably be found in the Catlins.

This untamed enigmatic corner of New Zealand winds its way from Kaka Point in the north down to Fortrose in the South. In between lie windswept deserted beaches, rugged coastline, endless green bush, and lots of marine life, including sea lions, penguins and dolphins.

There is so much natural beauty to explore in the area, and plenty of lazy seaside settlements to base yourself from.
