Organisers are once again hoping for fine weather and good competition when the 55th annual Wanaka Rodeo hits town on Tuesday January 2.

About 5000 people packed the arena at Albert Town, on the outskirts of Wanaka, for last year's event and a team of 50 volunteers has once again worked hard to develop a top-class rodeo.

The high calibre of riders and animals has meant that the event is always popular. The rodeo is all about the spectators, competitors, organisers and animals, who come together for a great day of competition and entertainment.

The horses, steers and bulls are an integral part of the rodeo. Their quality is a credit to the owners, contractors and stockmen/women who train and care for them to a very high standard so that they are healthy, happy and competitive.

The gates open at 9am, and with the large numbers that attend it is wise to get to the grounds early.

The rodeo will commence with second-division events from 11am until 1pm, when everyone will be entertained by Coopers Run.

Just before 2pm there will be the grand opening and the top division will compete from 2pm.

Entry fees are: adult $20, family $40, children under-16 $5. Entry is paid at the gate, cash only. No BYO or glass is allowed, but there is a bar with food and beverages. Please note, no dogs are allowed.
