The Twizel Salmon and Wine Festival

Originally conceived to celebrate the Twizel area, the Twizel Salmon and Wine Festival has undergone many changes to become a highlight of the summer festival calendar in the South.

Not only is this festival a chance to showcase local salmon, food, and beverages, but it also shows off Twizel as a destination not to be left off the `to do' list.

In 2018, the festival is celebrating its 13th anniversary, and the event is going from strength to strength. It now attracts food and beverage vendors from all around the South Island, but the focus remains on the local salmon, wine, beer, and cheese industries.

The event is run by Twizel Promotions, a non-profit organisation dedicated to increasing the profile of Twizel and spotlighting what it has to offer. Being a community-focused event, there is also the opportunity for various local groups to hold fundraising activities, with proceeds raised going back into the local community.

All in all it is a great day out under the summer sun in Twizel. Don't forget your sunhat and chair (sun screen is available at no charge onsite) and be ready to experience a relaxing family day out, with entertainment provided by two different bands on two stages, the Salmon Sizzle Cook Off Competition (where teams of contestants battle to create the best salmon dish as judged by a team of local expert chefs), and a bouncy castle, playground, and face painting for the kids.

The event is family friendly, with something for everyone. For more information check out the Facebook page: TwizelSalmonAndWine, and you can purchase tickets online at
