Building Foundations For Life

John McGlashan College combines a century of outstanding achievements with a modern, innovative and collaborative approach to education.  We build foundations for life, foundations built on John McGlashan’s beliefs and the value of ‘a sound and liberal education’, where students are provided with abundent opportunities to support their individual growth.  We affirm standards that are fundamental to our heritage: honesty, simplicity, respect and concern for others; and we endeavor to uphold these standards within the College community.

We aim for intellectual excellence for every student, by means of a well structured curriculum and through effective teaching and learning programmes.  We offer NCEA, the International Baccaleaureate Diploma, Gateway and our Agribusiness Centre of Excellence to help each individual find their area to excel in.

John McGlashan College holds to the ideal of “a healthy mind in a healthy body”. We do not expect all boys to be top sportsmen, but we do want them to be physically fit and to experience the cooperation, satisfaction and enjoyment of organised sport.  Our participation rate in sport sits at around 90%, our boys have fun playing sports with their friends.  This is invaluable in today’s ever-changing technological world.

Above all, we want our students to become well-educated men of character. We want them to learn to have the courage to stand, alone if necessary, for what they believe is right and to use their education and influence for the good of others. Our continued hope is that boys will leave here as men of integrity and conviction.  Men who take charge of their own behaviour and learning, and make a strong contribution to the benefit of others. This is the core of who we are as a school.

We invite all our prospective students and parents to our open night and open afternoon on:
Tuesday 30 July, 7.00pm
Thursday 1 August, 2.00pm
