124 years after New Zealand gave women the right to vote, Kate’s back, and just in time for the election.

After sell-out seasons in Auckland and Christchurch, the smash hit musical That Bloody Woman blazes into the Fortune for a limited season from Tuesday 26 September until Sunday 8 October, bringing this national treasure and a live rock band to the Fortune Theatre for the first time!

That Bloody Woman, a highly political rock musical honouring the work of the great Kate Sheppard, tackles the patriarchy, public opinion and then Prime Minister Richard Seddon as she fights to win women the right to vote in the late 1890s, to the tune of punk rock.

This musical by Christchurch-born writers Luke Di Somma and Gregory Cooper premièred at the 2015 Christchurch Arts Festival with a completely sold-out season. “This show is about overcoming the odds, and the historic sweep of what they achieved.” says Luke.

Our favourite suffragist Kate Sheppard, played by Esther Stephens from Westside, is transformed into a feminist firebrand raising hell and rocking out. Esther confesses “I’ve always wanted to play the lead in a musical, it’s been on my performer’s bucket list for years now.”

That Bloody Woman presents New Zealand’s greatest heroine like you’ve never seen her before. Directed by award-winning Kip Chapman who describes it as "a super theatrical rock concert on stage…" and is presented by Tour-Makers.
