Port Chalmers Seafood Festival goers are set for a taste sensation at this year’s festival with over 20 seafood and “land food” providers showcasing their specialties on September 30th.

“It’s such a great chance to have a foodie’s day out, whether you love seafood or are just starting to dip your taste buds into it,” said Justin Moore, Seafood Festival Committee Chair. “We’ve got a spectacular range of southern food from great Otago locals, and if you’re looking to learn how to cook it we have cooking demonstrations to give you the inside tips.”

Southern Clams a principle sponsor of the festival have also stepped up to not only provide their sustainably harvested clams in a number of fresh dishes, are also hosting the first ever West Harbour School’s Wearable Arts awards. With three local schools entering to tell their story of local seafood while using Clam shells and other ocean articles to create imaginative outfits for the competition held on the day.

Harbour Fish, a Dunedin run fishing operation and shop that specializes in small vessels that fish locally will also be there to showcase why they’re not just popular for Dunedin and Queenstown fresh seafood lovers but also do the vast majority of their business supplying Kiwi and International restaurants.

“There will be a battle of the Chowders on the day for sure, as well as whitebait, the freshest sushi in town, and a great range of local food that’s sure to please all of your tastebuds.”

Local craft beer legend Richard Emerson will be on site, along with Mt Difficulty Wines and “Quite possibly the best cider in the country” Peckham’s Cider coming down from Upper Moutere to showcase the range of craft cider. If you’re looking for a match the expertise is there with local celebrity chefs like Greg Piner of Vault 21 and Bevan Smith of Riverstone Kitchen just two of the cooking demonstration chefs having their delicacies paired with the beverages on offer.

“Having the support of local chefs, volunteers and businesses to help our community event is amazing, we truly wouldn’t be here without the likes of Southern Clams, Fiordland Lobster, The Otago Daily Times, The Hits, and the Otago Community Trust.” Said Moore. “Making an event that is a great day out for the community while also raising funds for West Harbour makes it a real win-win festival for all!”

Tickets are on sale for the festival with a range of options available, including the additions of train or boat services out to the festival along with free buses.
