Dunedin primary school St Brigid’s is hosting a car show — ‘‘What’s In Your Garage?— as a fundraiser which staff believe will be a first for a school in the city.

Dunedin has a proud automative history spanning back to the turn of the 20th century.

Collectors and car enthusiasts seldom have the opportunity to showcase these hidden gems that are too often just kept under wraps in a garage.

St Brigid’s PTA member Lynda Evans sees this as both an opportunity to help fundraise for her daughter’s school and to provide a family fun day for car enthusiasts to come andsee someof Otago’s finest cars.

Over the past several months, Lynda has been asking the question ‘‘so what’s in your garage?’’, inspiring many classic, vintage, modern sports car owners to sign up and commit to showcase their unique vehicles on the day.

As interest gained momentum and the sponsors and prizes started to come in, it was apparent that this school fundraiser was becoming quite the event, she said.

The day is planned to be completely family friendly, boasting bouncy castles, raffles and a colouring competition with some great prizes for children.

You can even bring your dirty car along on the day to have it cleaned.

All proceeds go to support St Brigid’s School. The school in Andersons Bay has a roll of 100 and exciting proposed redevelopments ahead. It is fundraising towards additional teaching resources and refurbishments.

Many schools run fairs, make cheese rolls or continuously hound their parent communities for financial support, St Brigid’s wants to do something different this year and the hope is to provide an amazing family fun event which the wider Dunedin community gets behind.

COME ALONG, OR ENTER

If you are looking for an action-packed, family fun day out with the children, come along to the car park next to the Dunedin Ice Stadium, at 120 Victoria Rd, on Sunday from 10am-2pm.

If you are looking out your window and staring at your garage and thinking it’s time you aired out your prized possession and would like to be part of the ‘‘What’s in Your Garage?’’ event, it may not be too late to contact Lynda Evans by emailing carshow@stbrigidsdn.school.nz.
