Top Rugby Players to Help Paint Pirates’ Clubrooms During National Volunteer Week

Thanks to ORFU, Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin and Valspar Paints three international rugby players will be joining committee volunteers and some Otago Mitre 10 Cup players to help paint the Pirates’ clubrooms at St Kilda on Monday night.

With it being National Volunteer Week, the Otago Rugby Football Union are looking forward to giving back to the rugby community. They are volunteering to help with something that needed doing at a club that would normally be done by club volunteers. It’s an awesome opportunity for the club’s volunteers to have some appreciation shown to them for all the hard work that they do.

A number of clubs entered, however the ORFU couldn’t go past Pirates RFC, who have gone through a number of challenges this season.

They have one of Metro’s strongest junior clubs, however their Premier 1 mens’ team had to withdraw from the competition this year, leaving the senior club with some uncertainty. However their womens’ team have made the finals this Saturday, and their committees are well organised and give a lot of their time to ensure the successful running of the club.

The inside of the Pirates’ clubrooms is looking quite tired, and so they put forward an application to have the three international players do some painting internally. There is a pirate ship as a stage that one of the club members, who is a builder, is going to donate his time to refurbish over this weekend, so it will be ready to be painted on Monday. There are also some radiators that need painting, as well as internal walls and some of the pillars.

The Pirates committee is getting together to do all of the prep work this weekend. These are parents of kids in the junior rugby club, who all work full-time, and who every week work tirelessly to ensure that the club is organised for its Saturday competitions.
