For the ninth successive year Dunedin's Klone Hair has met the challenge of the role of official hairstylist for the iD International Emerging Designer Awards, which take place next Thursday night.

Once again the team from Dunedin's long-established Albany St salon will move in backstage to prepare the models for an evening that has gone from being a transtasman competition to a significant global event.

"At that first event we had five stylists. This time around we have 10,'' said Karl Radel who, along with wife Danelle owns and operates the salon. In his role of New Zealand team leader for L'Oreal NZ's H3 (``H Cubed'') cutting team, Karl is just back from a national conference in Auckland.

To select a look for the awards night Klone once again held an in-salon "think-tank'' session.

"Everyone had to present ideas on what styles they perceived were current,'' Karl said. "From these we selected and finalised the looks that will be seen on the catwalk.''

The Klone team, which includes a number of award-winners, is: Karl and Danelle Radel, Rachelle Scott, Heidi McGill, Angela Williams, Tania Mercer-Black, Stephanie Jackson, Sarah McKenzie, Samantha Buckley and Hailey Wright.
