Bars, cafes and restaurants are stepping up the competition for this year's 12th annual Monteith's Beer and Wild Food Challenge.

A total of 119 entrants from Paihia to Invercargill are taking part in the competition, in which they have to prepare a wild food meal and match it with a Monteith's beer.

Wild food is defined as anything not usually raised on a farm.
