WHAT IS YOUR FOCUS AT THE MOMENT?

At Waitaki Girls' we are focused on raising environmental awareness, which we did by having a waste-free week during school. Recently, we have been trying to implement an effective recycling system, for which we have received a lot of support from our teachers and the principal.

WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED?

About three years ago I started to develop a passion for saving the environment because I imagined what our world would be like if we continued to burn fossil fuels, produce plastic-covered products and live unsustainably. I helped to start up the Waitaki Girls' Enviro Club and incorporated the Enviroschools programme. It was a very exciting way to get involved.

WHAT SHOULD WE HOPE FOR?

I think we should hope for humanity to take this threat to existence seriously and band together to make changes to the way that we live. This fight to stop climate change is not a one-man race - everyone has a part to play. It shouldn't be all left up to the governments, or a single person.

HOW DO WE GET THERE?

By working together and creating new effective innovative solutions. What we shouldn't do is wait around for someone else to do it. We need to educate ourselves and take action with the most effective solutions to reduce our impact on the planet.
