Cop flung from stolen car after 30m ride

A Brisbane police officer has serious injuries after a wild ride on the bonnet of a stolen car used to deliberately run him down.

The officer was hit and carried for 30 metres on the bonnet of the red BMW when he approached the car after noticing it had home-made licence plates at Chermside about 1am on Monday.

He sustained head injuries when he was eventually flung from the car.

He was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Two men fled and dumped the car nearby but were later arrested.

Police say the vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a Wilston home last week.
