Thrillseekers rescued from Gold Coast ride

Movie World staff and emergency services have rescued 20 passengers who were stuck on a roller coaster at the Gold Coast theme park.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman confirmed all of the thrill seekers were safely removed from the ride at 1.20pm.

The spokesman said 16 passengers were removed using Movie World's evacuation procedures, but another four required assistance from firefighters.

The Courier Mail reported that it was the the Arkham Asylum ride that malfunctioned, and initially said dozens of people were trapped.

A mechanical issue caused the ride to malfunction, Movie World general manager Greg Young said.
