Four men accused of murder over the machete killing of a young man, who was trying to protect his mother during a violent home invasion, have appeared before a Sydney court.
One of them, David Ramos, pleaded guilty in the NSW Supreme Court on Friday to the murder of Kesley Burgess at his home in Lurnea, in Sydney's southwest, in 2010.
Three other men, Mohammed Jawad Karimi, John Khoury and Mahdi Mir pleaded not guilty to the murder.
Mr Burgess, 25, died in hospital after suffering major blood loss from wounds to much of his body, including his wrists, legs and ankles.
He was attacked in his family's home on the evening of July 1, 2010, with machetes and meat cleavers.
He had been defending his 47-year-old mother, who was wounded in the hand.
Each of the four men is also charged with several other offences.
Karimi, Khoury and Mir are expected to face trial on March 11, 2013.
