Holiday road toll rises to 23

The death of a 25-year-old Coorparoo man south of Brisbane brings the holiday road toll to 23.

The man was struck by a truck on the Logan Motorway at Berrinba, near Logan, south of Brisbane, about 9.35pm (local time) yesterday, police said.

Preliminary information suggests the man's car was parked on the side of the road, possibly broken down, and he was struck by a passing truck while standing on the roadway, a police statement said.

The man died at the scene, bringing the Queensland holiday road toll to two and the national toll to 23.

The driver of the B-double truck was not injured.

* The national road toll period runs from 0001 December 23, 2012, until 2359 January 3, 2013, local times, in line with the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Board.
