Locals key to solving NSW double murder

A local resident holds vital clues that will solve the shooting murder of two people beside a lonely back road on the NSW-Victorian border, a senior investigator says.

Jamie Edwards and Joelene Joyce were shot dead in a car beside an isolated, unsealed road outside the NSW town of Moama, near Echuca on the Murray River.

Mr Edwards, of Moama, and mother-of-four Ms Joyce from nearby Mathoura, both 36, were killed between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, when a local man came across the horrific scene.

Superintendent Paul Condon says he's convinced a resident of Moama or Echuca, just across the Murray, knows what happened, and he appealed to them to contact Crimestoppers.

"We know that someone out there must know something. Someone either here (in Moama) or in Victoria knows what's happened," he saud.

Supt Condon said police are considering a range of motives including drugs, a dispute with local Bandidos outlaw bikers or a personal dispute.

A strike force comprising homicide, local and regional detectives, ballistics experts and forensic specialists is investigating the killings.
