Man charged over Melbourne shooting death

A man is due in court after being charged with the murder of a woman who was shot dead in a suburban Melbourne street.

Phillip Bracken, of West Footscray, faced an out of sessions court hearing at the Footscray Police Station early Tuesday and was remanded in custody, police said.

The 45-year-old was charged with one count of murder after an investigation into the discovery of the 58-year-old woman's body in Clive Street, West Footscray just after 2.30pm (AEDT) on Monday.

He is due to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court later on Tuesday.
