Sydney couple overpower home invaders

A man has been arrested and police are seeking two others after a couple were attacked in a botched home invasion in Sydney's south.

Police say three men, one armed with a sledgehammer, forced their way into the home on Botany Road, Mascot, and confronted and threatened a man and woman.

But after a struggle the couple managed to detain one of the attackers while the two others fled.

Police were called to the home and arrested a 29-year-old man.

One of the occupants, a 42-year-old man, suffered stab wounds to his shoulder.

A 56-year-old woman suffered head and arm injuries.

They were treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics and taken to Prince of Wales Hospital, where both are in a stable condition.

The 29-year-old man was later charged with aggravated break and enter and assault with intent to rob while in company.

He was due to appear in court on Monday.

The remaining two men have been described to police only as wearing balaclavas and dark-coloured clothing.
