Sydney man to face court over explosive device

A Sydney man will face court today after being charged with possessing an explosive device.

The 22-year-old man was arrested yesterday after his mother allegedly found a homemade bomb in his bedroom at their home on Warburton Crescent in Werrington County on Tuesday night.

Bomb squad specialists examined the device before detonating it at a nearby football field.

The man was charged with possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing an explosive for unlawful purpose.

He was refused police bail and is scheduled to appear in Penrith Local Court.
