Sydney taxi driver robbed at knifepoint

A taxi driver has been robbed at knifepoint and bashed in Sydney's inner west.

The 33-year-old was stopped near Wharf Crescent at Pyrmont about 10pm last night when he was attacked by a man who jumped out of a white van.

The taxi driver was threatened with a knife and robbed of money in the attack, police said in a statement.

The driver followed the assailant in his taxi after the incident, but lost the vehicle.

The male victim suffered facial injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Detectives are looking for a man of Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his 20s, with a short and stocky build and wearing red shorts and a white T-shirt.
