Take nine first-year students, a list of activities and challenges and a swag of prizes and you have Fresher Comp.

Nine freshers signed themselves up for a week of strenuous, tasty, fun and at times, embarrassing activities in the hope of taking home, among many other goodies, a Nintendo Wii console and a paid trip to Queenstown.

Organiser Lauren Rose relished selecting "games" for them in the morning.

Her favourite so far involved whipped cream and cheeseballs.

Split into pairs, one fresher had cream smeared over their face, while their partner tried to get as many cheeseballs as possible to stick on their face.

The afternoon brought 40 minutes of intensive aerobics and box wars when three teams created armour from boxes for freshers to battle in.

Today brings new challenges, including horizontal bungy.
