180 children at fishing day

The Otago Fish and Game Council’s Take a Kid Fishing day was a crowd-puller.

About 180 children, accompanied by parents, took part at Dunedin’s Southern Reservoir yesterday.

Fish and Game officer Steven Dixon said between 30 and 50 rainbow trout were caught yesterday, the biggest weighing 3.5kg, and even those who missed out enjoyed the event.

"Kids who didn’t catch fish saw fish get caught, so they had just as much fun. It was good to see," he said.
