Otago Polytechnic mechanical engineering student Joshua Tippet (19, left) checks out a 360deg camera with Beca survey lead Josh Brinkmann.

The company was showing off technology it uses, such as the camera which is similar to those used by Google to create its street view images.

Mr Brinkmann said it allowed the firm to film 360deg images of, for instance, work it was doing for the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery team restoring infrastructure following the Kaikoura earthquake.

The camera provided up-to-date, quality footage of the work for staff to use without the need for a site visit.

At the event at the polytechnic yesterday, part of Techweek, the company also showed students survey laser scanners and drones that were now being used in the industry.
