Busy bees can now make their way to Dunedin’s newest public space.

Work on the "pocket"-sized bee park at the end of Great King St between the Captain Cook Hotel and School of Physiotherapy is now open for buzziness.

A collaboration between the University of Otago and the Dunedin City Council, the park features bee-friendly native plants, a honeycomb painted surface and macrocarpa bench seats, tables and chairs.

Bike stands are also included in the design and there is room for cyclists to travel through the park to join the State Highway 1 cycle lane.

The university is contributing $100,000 towards the project and the council is providing design work, installation, project management and maintenance of the park.
