Animal blessing

Animals large and small will be blessed in Dunedin next month.

SPCA Otago executive officer Sophie McSkimming said the ''blessing of the animals'' would be held at St Paul's Cathedral on October 4.

The public were invited to bring their pets, from guinea pigs to horses, to the cathedral for a service in honour of St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.

The blessing was an enjoyable way to remember the welfare of our ''good friends'' from the animal kingdom, Ms McSkimming said.

SPCA Otago would be incorporating a lesson on animal welfare, she said.

The public would meet in the cathedral car park before 2pm to join a procession around the cathedral precinct before entering the main cathedral doors.
