A 41-year-old man was taken into custody by police in Mosgiel tonight after an armed offenders squad call-out was resolved peacefully.

Police issued a statement shortly before 9.30pm, saying the incident had been "resolved without incident''.

"Police would like to thank people in the area for their patience while we responded to this incident,'' a police spokesman said.

Earlier, a police spokeswoman said police had been alerted at about 7.20pm, after a man had "threatened self harm''.

The armed offenders squad had been called out as a "precaution'', she said. Police officers could earlier be seen in Reid Ave, and the Gordon Rd, Hartstonge Ave areas.
