Asbestos has been found near a Dunedin BMX track and the public have been warned to stay away until it is removed.
Dunedin City Council infrastructure and networks general manager Ruth Stokes said a voluntary group working in Northeast Valley disturbed material containing asbestos fibres in an old landfill site near the Forrester Park BMX track.
The exposed area had been covered and fenced off, she said.
The asbestos posed ''a very low exposure risk'' and solutions were being worked on.
