Attacked teen finally well enough to talk

An 18-year-old youth seriously injured in an attack in Dunedin almost a month ago has only just become well enough to talk to police.

Police said the youth spoke to them at the weekend.

Detective Sergeant Chris Henderson, of Dunedin, said the youth who was injured in the attack on August 3 had been in Dunedin Hospital's intensive care unit following surgery for serious head injuries.

He was allegedly kicked and fell backwards during the incident.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with injuring with intent to injure.

More serious charges were likely, Det Sgt Henderson said.
