Body found in Otago Harbour

A 20-year-old man was found dead in Dunedin's harbour basin today.

Workmen fixing a broken plank on the Fryar St wharf saw the body below and called police about 11am, Detective Sergeant Brett Roberts said.

The body was recovered by police divers about 1.15pm.

The man was well-dressed. He has not yet been formally identified, Mr Roberts said.

Police did not know how long the body had been there. Several police working on the investigation had been talking to people in the area when the body was found, Mr Roberts said.
