Dunedin hot rod enthusiast Kevin Patrick leans on his modified machine outside the Dunedin Railway Station yesterday  during  the Conrodders Rod and Custom Car Club’s 45th anniversary celebrations.

The 1946 Chevy truck cab, mounted on to a Toyota Hilux chassis, was his "toy project", but his wife called it by a different name.

"She calls it the money pit."

He had been interested in modifying cars as long as he could remember.

"My father was into hot rods, so I was kind of brought up with it."

Event co-organiser Gerard Perkins said the warm weather ensured the more than 80 people in 40 cars had a "great weekend".

The three-day ride also included parties in Green Island and Mornington.
