St John ambulance officers tend to a 13-year-old boy who injured his back while sliding down sand dunes at Tomahawk Beach about 2.30pm on Saturday.
An ambulance spokesman said despite the teenager feeling a ''click'' in his spine as he slid down a dune, he could still wiggle his fingers and toes, suggesting the injury was minor.
The boy was carried by Lookout Point firefighters to a waiting ambulance, which took him to Dunedin Hospital for treatment.
